Bakery Licence
- The Bakery Licence is for selling baked bread and other bakery products.
- It covers plain bread only, without other food products such as sausages or luncheon meat. Most bakeries today actually hold a Food Factory Licence: if you want to make bread in the shop, and the bread may include meat or dairy products, you need a Food Factory Licence.

Bakery Licence FAQ
Does every bakery need a Bakery Licence?
No. It depends on the type of bread you sell. Most bakeries today actually hold a Food Factory Licence. If you want to make bread in the shop, and the bread may include meat or dairy products, you need a Food Factory Licence.
Why not a Bakery Licence?
Because a Bakery Licence covers plain bread only (no other food products such as sausages or luncheon meat). Most shops want to sell a wider range of products. Because of these limits, we usually suggest a Food Factory Licence for anyone who wants to run a bakery.
So when do I need a Bakery Licence?
If your restaurant wants to serve bread for dine-in, has bread-making machines on site, and you also want to sell the bread as takeaway, you apply for a Bakery Licence together with your restaurant licence.
